Chopta Chandrashila Tungnath Trek Description – The Most Popular All-Season Trek in Uttarakhand
Chopta Tungnath Trek is one of the most famous trekking destinations in Uttarakhand. Known as the most popular all-season trek in Uttarakhand, it attracts thousands of tourists every year from across India and abroad. Unlike other treks that are limited to specific seasons, this trek can be enjoyed throughout the year, making it ideal for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.
Chopta is a small village located in the Garhwal region, surrounded by dense forests of deodar, oak, and rhododendron trees. The region is rich in biodiversity, offering chances to spot Himalayan Monal, musk deer, langurs, and a variety of birds. The local people mostly speak Garhwali, and they live a simple life, relying on agriculture and small businesses that serve the tourism industry.
Tungnath Temple, situated at an altitude of 3680 meters, is the highest Shiva temple in the world and an important pilgrimage site for both locals and tourists. It holds special significance, especially during Maha Shivratri, when many devotees make the journey to offer prayers.
Chandrashila Peak stands just above Tungnath and offers one of the best panoramic views of the major Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba. The short climb from Tungnath to Chandrashila is moderate and highly rewarding, particularly during sunrise, making it a highlight of the trek.
Nearby places worth visiting include Deoria Tal, a serene lake known for its reflection of the Chaukhamba peak, and Ukhimath, a spiritual town where priests stay during winters when the Kedarnath temple remains closed.
Every year, around 50,000 to 70,000 tourists visit Chopta and Tungnath, contributing to its reputation as one of the top trekking and tourist destinations in Uttarakhand. The area is well connected by road, and simple guesthouses and hotels offer comfortable stays for travelers.
Chopta Tungnath Trek is not just about adventure; it is also about experiencing local culture, spirituality, and the untouched beauty of the Himalayas. This is why it remains the most popular all-season trek in Uttarakhand, offering something special for every type of traveler.
